Disaster Preparedness & Resilience

Mareeba residents are being encouraged to take part in practical disaster preparedness initiatives designed to build personal and community resilience ahead of future emergencies.

The Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) programs are being delivered across the region by the FNQ Neighbourhood Centres Collaborative, comprising the Cooktown, Mossman, Port Douglas, Mareeba and Atherton Neighbourhood Centres.

The programs focus on strengthening preparedness at both individual and organisational levels, ensuring communities are better equipped to respond to and recover from disasters.

Person-centred emergency preparedness planning supports individuals to develop their own tailored emergency and evacuation plans. The workshops guide participants through identifying appropriate actions to take in a range of emergency scenarios, helping people make informed decisions quickly and confidently when it matters most.

BCP workshops assist small businesses and community organisations to identify essential functions, plan for disruption, and reduce downtime during and after disaster events, helping to maintain critical services for the community.

Residents, community groups and business owners across Mareeba Shire are encouraged to attend upcoming sessions and take part in these free planning opportunities.

Assistance provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
