Submission Tips
Before you submit your event, we ask that:
You fill out as much of the information as possible.
Your events be local only, that is relevant to Mareeba and surrounds.
Your image be relevant to the event you are submitting. We will not approve events with inappropriate or offensive images and we are not liable for any copyright infringements on images submitted by you.
You check for grammatical and spelling errors (particularly in names and locations) before you submit your event, if you include acronyms please include the full name at least once. (MSC as Mareeba Shire Council)
Where appropriate, you include your contact details, usually in the description field, so viewers can contact you directly about your event, otherwise leave your contact details and any relevant information with MCC and we will endeavour to answer questions on your behalf.
You state if your event requires registration to attend, and if so when the deadline is to have the registration to you by.
Where appropriate, list the cost of your event i.e. entry tickets.

FAQ
To submit an event:
- Click on the date of the event in the calendar and select the ‘Create an event’ option.
- Fill in the requested information (Title, Description, Image, Location, Date, etc.)
- Click the ‘I’m not a robot’ box and then hit ‘Submit Event’.
Easy!
The short description is a few words to summarise your event. This description shows underneath the ‘Title’ of your event when a viewer hovers their mouse over the event in the map.
You do not need to include an image however including an image helps views to get a visual idea of your event. It also makes the Calendar more interesting. Images need to be JPG or PNG and no larger than 8MB.
You can only add one image to the calendar, however if you have more images to add, you can send them through to us and we can add them in for you.
Yes, we highly recommend you add your location to the event. That way people are able to find the event and attend it.
Additionally, adding a full location to your event (14 Sutherland Street, Mareeba QLD 4880 instead of just ‘Mareeba’ for example) means that the location will show up on Google maps in the ‘Location’ tab of the calendar. Viewers will even be able to get directions to your event directly from the calendar.
The Website URL is option for you to add a URL or web address if your event is also visible on your own, or another website or social media page.
For instance, if you have the event listed on Facebook you can link the Facebook event to this calendar by entering its URL that way viewers can ‘like’ and ‘share’ your event. That way, if you update the event on Facebook or make posts to the page, viewers will be able to see them directly. It is another means of providing viewers with as much information as possible about your event.
No, you do not need to include an icon. It is just a visual tool to associate the event with a certain service, object, or place.
The 'categories' are a way to characterise events into groups with other relevant events. The categories also work as filtering tool, where viewers can select whether they want to only view events of a certain category which is more relevant to them.
You can choose a category from the list already provided. If you do not see a category relevant to your event, please feel free to add a note in the ‘Notes to the reviewer’ section letting us know how to categorise your event.
If your event repeats over a period of time, say every Monday, every week for 3 months, you can schedule the events to repeat in the calendar.
Simply select repeats: weekly, select the day of the week, then include the date your events end, whether it is ‘never’, after a certain number of times or on a certain day. If you run into any troubles here please feel free to contact us.
*we are currently experiencing an issue with the way the repeat options are viewed. The selectors show up as black lines instead of buttons, they do work however. To use the function click the black line and then type in the grey box next to/underneath it.
No, these are optional section. The Counter simply shows the number of people who have looked at the event directly.
Once submitted, you will not be able to make a change to your event. If you need to make a change to your event, please contact us with the updated details and we will update the event. We ask that you do not create a duplicate event.
Your event will need to be approved by MCC staff before it will become fully visible on the calendar. You will receive a notification via email once you event had been approved, or if it has been denied.
Your event may have been declined for a number of reasons including but certainly not limited to:
- Not enough details were included (in this case we will endeavour to get in contact with you and amend the submission before we deny it).
- The event, image or its content is inappropriate, offensive or promotes illegal activities.
- The event is not local or considered a ‘local community event’.
We endeavour to approve events as soon as possible, however please allow an appropriate amount of time for this to happen. Generally, 3 business days.
